About me

Allison Cheng, soprano vocalist and instrumentalist has been involved in pursuing music from the age of six. Growing up in a family that appreciated music, exposed her to classical music in the choral and orchestra spheres of influence.  Her elementary, middle school and high school years were full of music lessons and rehearsals for school choir and other ensembles. She was a member of the Oregon Repertory Singers Youth Choir (10 years) and Oregon Pro Arte You Chamber Orchestra (2 years).  Both groups provided her with opportunities to travel locally with OPAYCO and domestically and internationally with ORSYC. The most memorable trip she took with ORSYC was to a Choral Music Experience program in 2006 to York, England for two weeks. While in York, England, she attended masterclasses with Doreen Rao and worked with composers in residence and clinicians: Rupert Lang, Francisco Nunez, Sandra Snow, Lorna McDonald. In the fall of 2011 she won the OPAYCo concerto competition and sang with the OPAYCO orchestra in the spring. In the winter of 2012 she won second place in the La Sierra University Concerto Competition and sang with the orchestra during alumni weekend. Her previous roles in the La Sierra University Music Department productions include Adele from Diefledermaus and a chorus member of the the Sound of Music and Fiddler on the Roof. She preformed with Craig King at the Oregon Seventh-day Adventist Gladstone Camp Meeting in August 2013 and over the past two years has produced a CD with King to fundraise. All the proceeds of the CD project go toward People to People Ministries helping Portland School feed underprivileged children with food on the weekends. Her voice teachers are Elizabeth Eklund, Dr. Anne Young, and Dr. Raejin Lee. She currently attends La Sierra University and is in her third year as a Vocal Performance Major. She is involved in Chambers Singers, Chorale, Big Band, Roots Ministry, and other outreach opportunities in the Southern Californian  area.
